I know a thing or two about being overweight. Growing up with the nickname of Porky, I spent decades of yo-yo dieting to change it. Peronally I was thrilled when the "fat free" revolution hit because that meant I could eat what I really wanted to - sugary, processed junk! And I washed it down with Diet Pepsi! Didn't work!
It can be SO confusing to know what to eat these days, right?
Do you know what works? Real Food ... just real food! If you Grandmother would recognize it as food...that's what I am talking about :) When you feed the body what it needs, and it's tasty and satisfying ... weight is no longer a struggle. The funny thing is your body will crave healthy food because it's so SMART!
There is NO pleasure in deprivation and the very word diet triggers that feeling of dread in all of us. The feeling you are going to struggle, you are going to have to give up your favorite food, turn into a raving and white knuckle your way through the whole process, well it just doesn't work long term. Or we would all be thin because we have tried this!
Willpower relies on white knuckling. And it is a finite resource that is highly dependent on how much sleep you had the night before and if your blood sugar is balanced. It's all about habit change. Small habits that change over time where you are making good choices MOST of the time but never deprive yourself of goodies. I like an 80/20 rule. Eating well most of the time and leaving room for some non-negotiable treats. You know what yours are and I know mine - they may be different and that's OK!
